How to Clean Silicone Food Storage Containers

Keep Your Silicone Containers Fresh, Safe & Like New

Silicone food storage containers are designed for everyday use and are incredibly easy to clean. Unlike many plastic containers, premium food-grade silicone resists stains, doesn’t crack easily, and is less likely to retain odors when cared for properly.

Daily Cleaning

Cleaning your silicone container after each use helps maintain hygiene and extends its lifespan.

Step 1: Rinse Immediately

Rinse the container with warm water to remove any leftover food before it dries.

Step 2: Wash with Mild Soap

Use a soft sponge and a gentle dishwashing liquid. Avoid harsh chemicals that may leave residues.

Step 3: Clean the Corners

Pay extra attention to the edges, lid seal, and corners where food particles may collect.

Step 4: Rinse Thoroughly

Ensure all soap is removed before drying.

Step 5: Air Dry Completely

Place the container upside down on a drying rack until it is completely dry before storing.

Dishwasher Safe

Most premium food-grade silicone containers are dishwasher safe.

For best results:

  • Place on the top rack.
  • Separate the lid and base.
  • Allow both parts to dry completely before reassembling.

Removing Food Odors

Sometimes foods like garlic, onions, curry, or tomato sauce can leave temporary odors.

Try these simple methods:

Lemon Method

  • Rub fresh lemon over the container.

  • Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.

  • Wash with warm water.

Baking Soda Paste

  • Mix baking soda with a little water.

  • Apply the paste inside the container.

  • Leave for 30 minutes.

  • Wash and rinse thoroughly.

Sunlight Freshening

Place the clean container in indirect sunlight for a few hours to help reduce lingering odors naturally.

Removing Stains

Silicone is stain-resistant, but highly pigmented foods may occasionally leave light marks.

To minimize stains:

  • Wash the container soon after use.
  • Use warm water with mild dish soap.
  • For stubborn stains, use a baking soda paste and a soft sponge.

Avoid abrasive scrubbers that can dull the surface.

Things to Avoid

❌ Steel wool or metal scrubbers

❌ Sharp knives or pointed tools on the silicone surface

❌ Bleach or harsh chemical cleaners

❌ Storing the container while it is still wet

❌ Direct contact with open flames or stovetops

Storage Tips

To keep your silicone containers in excellent condition:

  • Store them clean and completely dry.
  • Stack containers neatly to save space.
  • Keep lids slightly open if storing for long periods to promote air circulation.
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on top that could deform the lid over time.
